Hoarding Seventeen

1.
The Mark 03:25
You take the light, I’ll take the dark. I’ll set the tower, you float the ark. This game’s afoot and you’re the mark. Three squares up, or maybe four? Time to play another round. Toy ships land on paper shores. Your token calls for a state of war. Tap the deck. Unlock the score. Tiny houses topple to the floor. Have you forgotten what you’re going for? Surrender now, they implore. Have you forgotten who you’re holding for? Have you forgotten who you’re hoarding for?
2.
Vacant Lands 03:30
Memory triangulates, trapping me in the din of this roadside scene. A conjuring sheet, a map of men who wait behind every word I’ve ever read. Who knows who plants the seeds that grow into this long-coming scheme? It’s the inner lock now open for them to see, for them to take, for them to remake in their image of me. I thought at least that I could trust in myself. I thought I knew where to stand. But now I think with a limp and I walk down the path toward the vacant lands.
3.
Obduration 04:10
It’s a well worn truth, now what they say that anger turned inward will whittle you away. Obturation. Odd Duration. I’m carving up trenches with my bare hands to capture the river that memory demands. Obturation. Odd Duration. A storm is now settling over the lake we float on. I’ll stop pretending you took me to bond. You look to shoreline, before you commit there’s a bright signal halting your fit.
4.
Did you note me driving? I followed the only path I saw. Can’t you see I’m trying? I’m just looking for a little awe. Feels like years I’ve been out here, putting up with signs. Hoping for a broken scaffold and for the sun to resign When the night comes to drown the flashes of the day don’t leave me with these road side horrors, they come up to stay. Did you write down what I did, mark it in your book? There’s nothing easy about knowing the steps you mistook. For years I’ve been out here, putting up with signs Hoping for a broken scaffold and for the sun to resign
